Silk Fly Lines

Three options in one line

  • Greased, the line floats high on the surface film
  • Un-greased it acts as a 'slow sinker'
  • De-grease the tip and there is a 'sink-tip' of variable proportions

Long Lasting

  • A Phoenix Line will last three times as long as a synthetic line.

About Phoenix Silk Fly Lines

All lines are made in their workshop situated in a tranquil countryside setting. The pleasure of this environment and the use of the finest natural products helps to produce the finest fly lines for one of the most pleasant and relaxing ways of fishing.
They are pleased to continue making lines in the same way as for 100 years for today's fly-fishermen and women who value the finest in tradition and performance.

Technical Details

The special 'proofing' of the braid gives no 'reel' memory and only minimum stretch to aid better hooking.

The oils and varnishes ensure that the line is waterproof and supple. The Phoenix Line is so stable so that it does not leach linseed oil and become tacky with age.

The special finish produces a line that shoots well, with the minimum of flash and maximizes the added advantage of silk, which gives a smaller diameter for a given weight.

A double tapered profile enables reversal of the line for longer use.

Making silk lines by traditional methods produces the finest product possible. It is very labor intensive and time consuming, much as split cane rod building. If we do not have the specific line ordered in stock, we will advise you of approximate delivery date at time of ordering. Since they are handcrafted in France, orders can take up to 8 - 12 weeks but are definitely worth the wait!

Braided Leader

Phoenix Silk Braided Leaders

This is the most effective solution for connecting the ultra fine tip of a silk line to a leader; a braided leader designed specifically for use with silk lines, but equally effective for synthetic lines. It gives a smooth transition from line to leader without hinging.

Simply insert the end of the fly line into the braid, whip a few turns of fly-tying silk around the braid near to the end. Trim of the frayed ends and superglue to finish. Use a loop to loop connection to join the monofilament to the leader.

Finish: Natural straw
Braided material in a natural color.
Size: 160cm
Approx 160cm, 0.18mm diameter. For silk lines #2 to #6.

Phoenix Silk Braided Leader   $16.00

"Red Tin" Mucilin has been the choice of most silk line fishermen since its introduction to the market. Sure, you can sit around the camp at night and argue the relative merits of bear grease applied with hummingbird flank feathers; but before you wet a line, treat it with Mucilin. Cost $4.50 per container with felt pad, or a case of 10 for $40.00.
